Great gig last night! The set, consisting of a good mix of jungle and drum 'n bass, worked really well, and I got really good response from the crowd. Some highlights from the set:
I have decided to release my own drum 'n bass tracks as an EP, which can be downloaded here. If you like it, please leave a message in the guestbook.
Tomorrow, December 2., I'm DJing at the 'Tidens Toner' event at Studenterhuset in Aalborg. The event features three other acts, including Trentemøller.
Monday, December 4., I'll join the Søvnig Mandag people for a electronic jam at Studenterhuset.
The weather just changed from a record-breaking summer to a bitter, unforgiving winter. Last week the world seemed like a good place to be. Now it is just above freezing temperature, and snow is being swept by a howling storm into the face of anyone unfortunate enough to be outside their homes.
Yesterday I learned that my friend Thomas Kjær ('Vejgaard') died this weekend. Drug overdose, they say. He had been on rehab and had been clean since then, as far as anyone of us knew. He hadn't been alone, they say. Probably, someone dropped by, delivering his final fix.
Thomas Kjær was a great guy. I never got quite as close to him as I wanted. I suspect that many people knew him like that. We all knew him as extremely funny, a bit crazy, but very nice to be around. If you looked a bit beyond the surface, you would know a caring and warm person. I always wanted to get to know that person even better. But I never did. After his return from rehab, I put off visiting him in his apartment, saving it for when I was less busy. Now it's too late, of course. I feel like an idiot.
Thomas was plagued and tormented by demons that none of us could scare away. They made him try to slowly kill himself with drugs and alcohol for many years. But when he returned from rehab, he was clear, positive and determined. We all saw a very good chance of him having completely turned his life around and overcome the demons.
But perhaps someone felt a bit lonely in their self-induced misery, and dropped by. Perhaps they brought some of the latest bargain. Perhaps it was really cheap, and they thought it would be nice of them to share it with their old buddy. Perhaps the quality was not the best. I blame them. I blame the people who sold them their beloved poison. I blame the people, who brought the stuff into the country. Eat your damn drugs and die yourself, you greedy, selfish bastards.
It is damn cold outside. It is cold in here too.
I will remember him for his humour, his kindness, and his art. He died far too early.
Far too early.
I'm playing tonight at the display/ground festival at Nordkraft in Aalborg. It's a very cool and spooky place. Be there.
The 1000fryd job went great! yngveSin -

opened with some funky hippetyhop, and a bit of ambient, which was nearly overwhelmed by noise from his sound card. Said sound card burned out later in the evening, electrocuting Yngvesin in the process. Not very lucky, that guy :). SilentBoom played a beat-heavy triphop/dub set, setting a great spooky mood for the evening. And Kiloton presented some new tracks with the intelligent beat programming and ever interesting sound, that we all have come to expect from that guy... When does Kiloton, the Album come out? I finished off with a load of drum 'n bass, which seem to go well with the audience. Great gig!
I'm playing a gig at 1000fryd in Aalborg, september 21st. The line-up is:
The concert is free, so please check it out!
I just passed the DBS exam at Aalborg University. In the spirit of information sharing, I have put my dispositions online for your reading pleasure - yeah right! Anyways, if you can use them, please do.
Just want to tell you about some great cartoons I've dug up...
Invader Zim is a cartoon from 2001 by Jhonen Vasquez, author of the comic 'Johnny the Homicidal Maniac'. Zim is a small green alien with a mission to prepare Earth for alien invasion. Zim has help from his moronic robot, GIR. The series stands out for its unique drawing style, cool 3D animation, and sci-fi horror music soundtrack.
Ren and Stimpy is a 1991 cartoon by canadian animator John Kricfalusi. It is completely and utterly crazy, the animation is completely over the top and the plots range from slightly silly to downright scary in their strangeness.
Guess my new hobby! I have been reading The Amazing Spider-Man cronologically from 1963 and onward. The Spider-man character was suprisingly cool in the old days, but unfortunately he was surrounded by uncool villains like bank robbers with moneybags and striped sweaters and The Enforcers *shudder*.
Things will be looking up for me when I reach 1988 and these my favourite aliens appear:
Check out spiderfan.org for an overview of the series.
New blog page, a new semester, very exciting...
I just tried out the PCXS2 emulator which emulates a PS2, albeit slowly and with a few glitches.
I was able to try out the cool Resident Evil 4. 2.5 frames per second is not exactly smooth, but when
I get some faster hardware, it will be perfect. Just have to settle for some older stuff until then :).
